The tui and the bellbird are frequent visitors to the house lending a melodious tune to lucky visitors. These birds are nectar eaters and find a smorgasbord of delights among the native flora in our gardens. The tui uses a chamber on its neck to produce some truly delightful songs that you can enjoy during your morning tea.
Originally New Zealand had only one species of land mammal. With hardly any predators bird life flourished and a diverse selection of feathered forefathers roamed. Te Anau is home to a bird sanctuary where sick and or vulnerable birds are rehabilitated. Only minutes walk from the centre of town, entry fee is by donation. A great chance to see some of our native birdlife up close and enjoy a lakefront walk at the same time. Fiordland is the fishermans paradise with some spectacular fishing spots on the waiau river. We can even organise a fishing day for you with an experienced local fisherman. While in Te Anau be sure visit the trout observatory situated on the lake front.
